Fake News #8

According to the article that I read . The term yellow journalism came from a popular New York World comic called "Hogan's Alley," which featured a yellow-dressed character named the "the yellow kid. Led by newspaper owners William Randolph Hearst and Joseph Pulitzer.

Satire Versus Fake New, Themanatee.net published a story on how the government of New Brunswick cuts funding to Santa Claus. The Dangers of (and Reasons for) Fake News ( "Click-bait" The 18-year-old, who lives in the small Eastern European town of Veles, says he made at least $60,000 in the past six months by posting fake news about the American Election.

Fake or real news,  In the first video they asked 7,800 students if they can tell the difference more than 82% of them had a hard time telling the difference. In the second video they had a bunch of fake and real news that was on the internet and ask them to tell the difference. Most of the people had a hard time with telling the difference . ("Don"t Believe Everything You Hear Or See On The Internet")

Spotting Fake News,  In the videos they just pretty much said to be careful about the fake and real news because you never know. Most of the News story's they talked about was mostly about Donald Trump.

whistleblowers #7

The whistleblowers article I picked is one on (Vice News Canada), about how Canada made up laws which will protect journalists. Bill S-231 amends the Canada Evidence Act. The new bill allows journalists the right to refuse to disclose information or documents that could identify a source who has requested anonymity.

I think that as people we have the right to know about what our government is doing and the decisions that are being made. Some things also should be left unsaid as well, I think its good that they came up with a law that make it harder to question and investigate journalists about there story's and articles. Half the time they are about things that the RCMP and the POLICE and they are trying to hide them from the public.

I think that its good because it makes it harder for the police and other agents to find out who the whistleblowers are and its important because the public can know what they are trying to hide.

Caught In Lies #6

Yes, I think that the news we see and hear everyday may be factually incorrect or fabricated because news reporters tend to make up things that are more appealing to the readers.
The news articles were good , but after reading them and taking the time to look at them , it does not surprise me to find out that journalists have made up the news.
I agree with Shafer's assertion because liars try to make things up and convince themselves that what they are telling others is true news and that it is what they heard, but really it is what they have produced themselves.
I think that schools should make sure that  journalism students can handle the responsibilities and pressures because  they will need to use those skills in the real world. I believe these are things to become a good journalist.
I thing that a newspaper helps when they allow people to give their opinion without giving theirs or getting offended. It makes it easy for many to say their thoughts and get the help they are looking for.

Hard News vs Soft News # 5

( Hard News)

"Micheal's essay- Carnage on the streets of Toronto"

http://www.cbc.ca/
This news article in definitely Hard News because it is "up-to-the-minute news and events that require immediate reporting."This article is very important in major City because theres a lot of people being affected by these and some people being hit and killed. Then numbers are rising,In the last five years, more than 150 pedestrians and cyclists have been killed.

( Soft News )
"Justin Timberlake invited back to Super Bowl halftime show"
http://www.cbc.ca/

This news article is Soft News because it falls under entertaining. Justin gets invited back to do the halftime show, this is not that important to some because not everyone knows who he is and it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

(Hard or Soft News)

"Why Trees Aren't Turning Red In Ontario And Quebec This Fall"

http://www.huffingtonpost.ca

This article is an example of both Hard and Soft News because it is important to some because it talks about how bad the environment is getting with global warming, Its hard news to the ones who care about the environment. It is also soft news because some people could care less on what the world is going too.

What Is Newsworthy !? # 4

Timing 4/4
This story has been a talk over the hockey world for these past couple of days. It is the newest news story based on this event of how the Toronto Maple Leafs young star Mitch Marner is skating on the four line in practice and for the game against the red wings

significance 3/4

I think this is a thing that needs to be done until he gets his games back and plays like he has in the pasts

Proximity 3/4

I gave this a 3/4 because this is going on in Toronto, Ontario and I live in Blackville,NB so it doesn't affect me in that way but I like the Leafs and I think it will make him better in the long run.

Prominence 2/4

I gave this a 2/4 because of how it affects his confidence from going from the first line to the four.

Human Interest 4/4

I gave this a 4/4 because there was a lot of people that were talking about this on the interest and the sports news. Its a pretty big deal in Leaf nations.

Final news mark - 16.5 /20

Timing 4/4
This story has been in the sports talk now for a few days now about would  Alex Galchenyuk of the Montreal Canadians would be a good fit in Pittsburgh if they were to trade him

significance 3/4

I think this is a good post because the Canadians would be trade away one of there high draft picks they got back in 2012 and he's a good player.

Proximity 3/4

I gave this a 3/4 because this is going on in Montreal,Quebec . and I live in Blackville, NB so it doesn't really affect me all the much. But it would be a big deal for habs fan.

Prominence 2/4

I gave this a 2/4 because of how it would hard on him to be getting trade away from a team he played for his hole NHL career and to deal with all the talk about it over the last few days.

Human Interest 4/4

I gave this a 4/4 because there was a lot of people that were talking about this on the sports news and the internet.

Final news mark - 15/20

journal #2

This story is about Edmonton Oilers superstar captain Connor McDavid and The Toronto Leafs, Austin Matthews about there teams and the way there season will go." McDavid said. "We're very lucky that way that we have a lot of young faces in Edmonton, as well as a good mix of ols der guythat have played and been around the league. Yes I think that the heading of the story catches your attention. It uses the best players in the NHL's name as the heading and that's what we look for as hockey fans and players is the big name players and stories about them. The ending is good because it's all the players talking about how there last season went, and what there looking forward to for this year coming up.

This article is about Arizona Coyotes forward Max Domi called for stricter immigration controls on Sunday in the wake of a violent attack in Edmonton.Really hope everyone in Edmonton is ok. We're behind you. This is why we have to be aware of some of the people we let into our country," said Domi, who added an emoji of a Canadian flag. This heading jumps out at you because it states about an attack in Edmonton and proffesional hockey players talking about the topic. They ended the article with a quoatation what Max said Do you care if anyone comes into our country and causes harm to our friends and family. Seriously. Let's have a conversation about this."

Journal #1

When i looked at the first ever newspaper and started to see that they are very different but look the same . First of all, 'Publick' is spelt, and there is no pictures or bold print. The pages looks the same to the ones we look at and read about everyday.

No, I do not think the government should have that much control or say over what news should be. The news we see and here about everyday has some important to it or they wouldn't say it to the public. Sometimes the government doesn't always want people to see and hear the truth but it has to be seen and said some point.

I think it's important to the government, businesses, because we need to see and hear the truth of these things. I believe that the people who buy and support the newspapers help from getting the paper shut down when there is something about the government in them and they do not want the public to see it. People need to see the truth of things.

No, I think the reason for why they publishing the first news paper in Halifax is because its a major city and there's a lot of people to read it.
